Why I incorporate salvaged and recycled materials into my wearable art
I care deeply about the environment and feel there is more that we should be doing to protect and keep it clean. I also feel overwhelmed by all the ways our world is being polluted and damaged. I used to feel helpless about the state of the world on future generations. Then, I remembered it only takes one person to effect change.
At Salvage & Shine, I am consciously working to implement environmentally sustainable practices. I found suppliers that manufacture shipping and packaging products that are recyclable and made from recycled materials. When designing and creating products, I purchase beads made from salvaged, recycled glass, and salvaged vinyl. Because of the worldwide plastic problem, I only purchase salvaged materials made from virgin plastic. Whenever possible, I purchase salvaged beads.
I believe that my stronger pieces were made using salvaged beads and materials. I found the salvaged materials influenced my design concept in an immensely spiritual way. I believe in learning from the past so I love when I can find inspiration from past beads and charms. My goal is to reuse materials and keep them out of our landfills. If we all take the time to think like this, the world would be a cleaner place.
