Salvage & Shine Hosts Art Advocacy Demonstration Paint and Sip
(March 27, 2025 Albany, NY) For April (aka Earth month), Community Investment Trust (CIT) and Salvage & Shine will be hosting an art advocacy demonstration themed paint and sip series. This event will take place at the Pommer/Coliseum Building (aka "Mini Mall") located at 153 S Pearl St. Albany, NY 12202 in Albany's South End Neighborhood. The purpose of this event is to showcase art advocacy, community, collaboration, and project planning by inviting members who are makers and artists of the South End Community and the Capital Region to come together to paint a peace mural backdrop together during the month of April 2025. The mural backdrop project will be a symbol of community building and peace, will prototype an eco-conscious alternative for decoupage, and will bring the community together.
This community paint and sip project will begin Monday, April 7th and end Wednesday, April 30th and will take place Mondays from 3-6pm and Wednesdays from 5-8pm. All are welcome to stop in and support us. If interested in painting, please RSVP using this RSVP link here. We welcome artists, makers, and creatives aged 8 and up to help paint this art advocacy mural. All participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is 18 years or older. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided by Community Investment Trust CIT, Salvage & Shine, and Celebrations of Albany for those who RSVP.
"This building is going to be community owned; so, we want to foster a sense of ownership where people come together to help shape this building into a community hub. Art is such an important way to activate spaces and bring people together." Said Ruth Kassel, Director of Operations at CIT.
"We need to learn how to come together to discuss topics passionately and respectfully where knowledge and understanding can be shared from different perspectives. This is the fuel where innovation ignites. Art is a powerful tool to express subjects/topics to people. It creates discourse and brings people together. I am choosing the Coliseum as a way to engage and inspire the people in my neighborhood - Albany's South End - to show the Capital Region that we are a dynamic and diverse neighborhood. I am excited to show the Capital Region the authentic South End Community." Said Alessandra Payne, owner of Salvage & Shine.
